For Treatment Professionals: Men’s Sober Living in West Los Angeles

Blackburn Recovery Services works with therapists, psychiatrists, interventionists, case managers, discharge planners and outpatient programs who need structured, men-only sober living in West Los Angeles for a client. Our homes in Venice, Mar Vista, Cheviot Hills and Mid City support the care you provide rather than replacing it, and with your client’s written permission we keep you updated. Call (888) 305-5422 to talk about a client and arrange a tour.

Key takeaways

  • Men-only sober living homes in four Los Angeles neighborhoods, plus independent sober apartments as a step down.
  • Full-time staff, drug testing three times a week and daily alcohol testing, weekly 12 Step meetings and weekly goal setting in every home.
  • Weekly progress updates to treatment providers and families, with the resident’s written permission.
  • Optional case management, mentoring, monitoring and clinical care through Blackburn Clinical Services.

Who we serve

Blackburn has served the Westside since 2012. All of our sober living homes and sober apartments are male only. Sober living often fits clients who are stepping down from residential treatment, attending an outpatient program, or needing more structure after a return to use. Our homes are recovery residences, not licensed treatment facilities, so clinical care stays with you or with another licensed provider.

We are glad to talk through whether a client is a good fit before anyone commits.

What your client gets in the home

  • Full-time staff at every location, so someone who knows your client is present and paying attention.
  • Frequent random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Weekly 12 Step meeting requirements and connection to the local recovery community.
  • Weekly goal setting and a personal schedule that can include your appointments, outpatient hours, work or school.
  • A community of men in recovery and access to a gym and wellness support.

Recovery housing has a recognized place in the continuum. SAMHSA’s Best Practices for Recovery Housing describe it as a key support strategy in achieving and sustaining recovery, and NARR’s levels of support describe how recovery residences range from peer-run homes to settings with paid staff and clinical services.

How we coordinate with you

We work alongside outpatient programs, treatment professionals and families. In practice:

  • With the resident’s written permission, we send weekly updates to families, providers and treatment teams, including you.
  • House staff can help residents keep your appointments in their weekly schedule.
  • We offer virtual tours, so a client who is still in your program can see a home before discharge, and in-person tours when that is easier.

Added support you can build around a client

Some clients need more than housing. These services can be added one at a time:

  • Case management: assessment, coordination, advocacy, monitoring and crisis support, with one main point of contact for the client and his supports.
  • Mentoring: one-on-one work on school, career, finances, fitness and relationships, with in-person sessions plus phone and text contact between them.
  • Drug and alcohol monitoring: testing frequency set case by case, with results shared with the appropriate people.
  • Intervention services for families who are trying to reach someone who is not yet willing to get help.
  • Therapy and psychiatry through our sister practice, Blackburn Clinical Services, if your client does not already have a clinical team.
  • Family support: a free virtual family support group every other Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:00 PM Pacific time, led by a licensed therapist from Blackburn Clinical Services, plus parent and family coaching. How we handle referrals

Patient brokering is a real concern in addiction care, and families deserve to know that a recommendation is about fit, not money. Blackburn does not pay for referrals. We will tell you plainly if we think a different level of care would serve your client better.

Frequently asked questions

Do you accept clients who are still in residential treatment?

We can talk with you and your client before discharge and offer a virtual tour so he can see the home while he is still in your program. Our guide to sober living after rehab covers planning the step down with families.

Will you share updates with me?

Yes, with the resident’s written permission. We provide weekly progress updates to treatment providers and families who are part of his plan.

Can my client keep seeing me while he lives in sober living?

Yes. Our homes are recovery residences, not treatment programs, so outside clinical care continues alongside the home. House staff help residents build appointments into their weekly schedule.

Do you serve women?

No. All Blackburn sober living homes and our sober apartments are male only.

Do you accept clients who use Vivitrol?

Yes. Blackburn supports residents who use Vivitrol (extended-release naltrexone) and works with their prescribers.

Do you pay for referrals?

No. Blackburn does not pay for referrals.
