Why tracking your sober time matters

Counting days is not about keeping score. Seeing your progress in front of you can be a powerful reminder of how far you have come, especially on hard days. Many people in recovery mark milestones with their sponsor, their home group or their family, and those moments of recognition help build the motivation to keep going.

    How the calculator works

    • Time sober: counted in calendar years, months and days from your sobriety date to today.
    • Total days, weeks and hours: the same time, shown a few different ways.
    • Money not spent: your monthly spending, multiplied across the time you have been sober.
    • Drinks or uses avoided: your weekly number, multiplied across the time you have been sober.
    • Milestones: the ones you have already reached and the date of your next one.

    Sobriety calculator questions

How do I calculate how long I have been sober?

Enter your sobriety date, the first full day without drinking or using, and the calculator counts the years, months and days from that date to today. It also shows your total days, weeks and hours.

    What is a sobriety date?

A sobriety date, sometimes called a clean date, is the first full day you did not drink or use. Many people in 12 Step programs mark milestones and anniversaries from this date.

Does the calculator save my information?

No. Nothing you enter is stored or sent anywhere. The calculation runs entirely on your own device.

    What if I relapsed?

Many people have more than one sobriety date. A relapse does not erase what you learned. Enter your current date and keep going, and reach out for support if you need it.

    What are common sobriety milestones?

Common milestones include 24 hours, 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, 6 months, 9 months, 1 year, 18 months and every year after that.
