Leaving the Strip without leaving town
West Hollywood is a compact city of about 34,349 people (U.S. Census Bureau QuickFacts, July 2023 estimate) that became its own city in 1984. It has a long history as a center of LGBTQ life in Los Angeles and a strong, visible recovery community. It is also one of the busiest nightlife districts in the county. Bars, clubs and restaurants line Santa Monica Boulevard and the Sunset Strip, and a lot of residents work in hospitality, entertainment, fashion and design.
That combination makes early recovery tricky. The meetings are excellent and close, but so is everything else. A man can leave a meeting and walk past three places he used to drink in before he gets home. For some men from West Hollywood, the answer is a few miles of space: a sober house south of the city where the street outside is quiet and the men inside are sober.
Mid City puts that space in place without cutting ties. You can still get to your job, your therapist and your friends in WeHo in a short drive or bus ride. You just do not live on top of the old routine anymore.
Blackburn housing is for men only, in both the homes and the apartments.

For families and referring professionals
Family, for many men from West Hollywood, means partners, close friends and chosen family as much as parents. We welcome all of them into the process. For a sober living resident, we send a weekly update to his family, providers and treatment team. Our family support group is free and virtual, meeting every other Tuesday from 6 to 7 PM Pacific with a licensed therapist from Blackburn Clinical Services. See the families page.
Therapists and outpatient programs in West Hollywood can call to talk through a client’s next step. Provider updates are part of sober living. Visit our page for treatment professionals.
