Everything Blackburn runs is on the Westside: sober living homes for men in Venice, Mar Vista, Cheviot Hills and Mid City, and sober apartments in West Los Angeles. We have nothing in the Santa Clarita Valley. This page is for men from Santa Clarita, Stevenson Ranch and Castaic who are considering sober housing on the Westside, roughly 36 to 45 miles to the south by road (approximate figures).

The Santa Clarita Valley at a glance
North of the San Fernando Valley and separated from it by mountains, the Santa Clarita Valley has grown into one of the larger population centers in the county.
- Santa Clarita had about 225,900 residents (Census Bureau 2022 estimate via LA Almanac), which makes it one of the biggest cities in Los Angeles County. It covers the communities of Valencia, Newhall, Saugus and Canyon Country. It is roughly 37 miles from Mar Vista by road.
- Stevenson Ranch, an unincorporated community on the west side of the valley, had about 20,500 residents and is roughly 36 miles away (same source).
- Castaic, further north, had about 18,600 residents and is roughly 45 miles away (same source).
These distances are approximate. A drive from here to the Westside depends heavily on time of day, so check a map before you plan around it.
How Santa Clarita commuters reach the Westside
The Santa Clarita Valley has an unusual advantage for a place this far out: commuter buses that go straight to the Westside.
- Santa Clarita Transit Commuter Express 797 and 792. These run directly to Century City and Westwood on weekdays (Santa Clarita Transit). They are commuter routes, built around work hours, and they connect to many Westside buses at the other end.
- Metrolink Antelope Valley Line. The line runs through the Santa Clarita Valley on its way from Lancaster to Union Station. From Union Station, the Metro E Line runs west to Culver City, Palms and Santa Monica.
Stevenson Ranch and Castaic riders should confirm the closest Commuter Express stop with Santa Clarita Transit before relying on it.
The practical takeaway: a man who moves from Santa Clarita to the Westside can still get home on a weekday by commuter bus, or any day by Metrolink and the E Line. The trip is long, but it is not impossible without a car.
Why men from the Santa Clarita Valley look south
Many men from the Santa Clarita Valley are living at or near home when they decide to get sober. In early recovery that can be a comfort or a trap, and sometimes both. Outside the commuter routes, getting around here usually means driving, and losing a license, or simply choosing not to drive for a while, can leave a man stuck at home with nothing but time.
The Westside offers something different: meetings within walking distance or a short bus ride at nearly any hour, jobs that do not require a car, and enough distance from home that old routines lose their grip. The commuter buses exist because plenty of valley residents work in Century City and Westwood. For men with a job there, living near the job is a way to give back the hours they used to spend on the road.
We will also tell you if we think a man is better off closer to home. Not every situation calls for a 37 mile move.
Our two options
Sober living gives the most structure. Drug testing happens 3 times a week, alcohol testing every day, and there are medication management systems in place. Families, providers and treatment teams get weekly updates. Residents can work full time and enroll at local colleges. Tours of the homes can be in person or virtual, which helps when the drive is long.
Our sober apartments for men are independent living in West Los Angeles: furnished, month to month, utilities and WiFi included, and weekly random drug and alcohol testing. No curfew, no overnight permission, and open to anyone who qualifies. Schedule an apartment tour, or call or text (888) 305-5422.
For families and clinicians in the Santa Clarita Valley
When your son or husband moves about 37 miles away, staying informed matters more. Sober living families, providers and treatment teams get weekly updates from us. Families can join a free virtual family support group every other Tuesday, 6 to 7 PM Pacific, led by a licensed therapist from Blackburn Clinical Services, from home in Valencia or Castaic. Getting there can be handled too: we offer sober transport and sober companion support for the move itself. See the families page and our page for treatment professionals.
For publicly funded treatment, the county’s Substance Abuse Service Helpline is 1-800-854-7771, option 2 (LA County Substance Abuse Prevention and Control).
