Blackburn does not have a home in Brentwood. The homes are in Mar Vista, Venice, Cheviot Hills and Mid City. The apartments are in West Los Angeles. From Brentwood, Mar Vista is roughly 5 miles by road, an approximate figure that depends on whether you start near the Village or up in the canyons. This page is for men from Brentwood, and their families, who want sober housing near home rather than across the country.

Why Brentwood families often look close to home
Brentwood is a largely residential neighborhood of about 30,379 people (Los Angeles County redistricting data, 2020), with quiet streets north of Sunset, apartment blocks closer to Wilshire, and a small shopping district around San Vicente Boulevard. Many families here have the means to send a son anywhere. Some choose a program out of state. Then treatment ends, and the question becomes where he lives next.
Coming back to the family house is often the default, and it is often hard. Parents become monitors. Old friends live a few streets over. The same driveway leads to the same places. A sober living home a few miles south breaks that pattern without sending him far away again. He can still make Sunday dinner, still see a doctor or therapist he trusts, and still keep a job on the Westside. At night he comes home to a house of men in recovery, with testing on a set rhythm.
Discretion matters too. A Brentwood family name can travel. Our homes are in ordinary residential neighborhoods, and we do not publish the addresses of our homes or apartments. That privacy protects every man who lives there.
Getting between Brentwood and our homes
- Metro 602. Runs along Sunset Boulevard between Pacific Palisades and Westwood, passing through Brentwood (Metro).
- Metro 2. Continues east along Sunset from Westwood (Metro).
- Big Blue Bus Route 14. Starts in Brentwood at Bringham and Gorham Avenues and ends at Culver City, crossing the Westside on the way (Big Blue Bus route list, via Wikipedia).
Most families from Brentwood drive. The trip south crosses Wilshire, Santa Monica Boulevard and the 10, so allow extra time at rush hour.
What Blackburn offers
Sober living homes
Structure is the point of our sober living for men. Drug testing runs 3 times a week, and residents take an alcohol test daily. Medication management systems are in place. Vivitrol is supported. Men can work full time and take classes at local colleges. Families, providers and treatment teams receive an update every week.
Sober apartments
Later, or for men who already have solid footing, our sober apartments for men in West Los Angeles offer independence with a safety net. Furnished and month to month, with utilities and WiFi included. Random drug and alcohol testing happens weekly. Otherwise there is no curfew and no one to ask for a night away. Men coming from any sober living home can call, as can anyone else who qualifies.

For families and referring professionals
For Brentwood parents, the hardest part is often stepping back after years of stepping in. Sober living lets professionals carry the daily accountability. Each week, the family of a sober living resident gets an update from us. Our family support group is free and online. It meets every other Tuesday, 6 to 7 PM Pacific, with a licensed therapist from Blackburn Clinical Services. Read more on our families page.
If you are an out-of-state treatment team discharging a Brentwood client home, call us before discharge. We can talk through fit, timing and sober transport or sober companion support for the trip back. See also our page for treatment professionals.
