Playa Vista is a few minutes south of Blackburn’s neighborhoods, but none of our housing is there. Blackburn sober living is in Mar Vista, Venice, Cheviot Hills and Mid City, and the sober apartments are in West Los Angeles. Mar Vista is roughly 3 miles by road from Playa Vista, an approximate figure. This page is for men from Playa Vista, many of them working in tech and media, who want a sober home close to work.

A new neighborhood on old ground
Playa Vista is one of the newest neighborhoods in Los Angeles. From 1941 to 1985 the land was the headquarters of an aircraft manufacturer, and development as a planned community of housing, offices and parks began in 2001 (Playa Vista, Wikipedia). Today about 16,253 people live there (Los Angeles County redistricting data, 2020), and its office campuses are part of the Westside tech hub often called Silicon Beach, home to game studios, ad agencies and digital media firms.
Why men from Playa Vista look for sober housing
The work culture shapes the story. Tech and media jobs often mean long hours, remote days that blur together, launch deadlines, and social events with an open bar. A lot of men in these jobs are high functioning right up until they are not. Many live alone in newer apartment buildings, where it is easy to keep a problem private for a long time.
When those men get help, the job is often still there waiting. That is a big reason to stay close. Mar Vista and Venice are just north, so returning to the office, or to the home office, does not require a new commute or a new city. What changes is home: a house of sober men with testing built into the week, or later an apartment where you set your own schedule but still test weekly.
Playa Vista also has something good to keep. The Ballona Wetlands border the neighborhood, and the trails along Bluff Creek are popular with walkers and birdwatchers (Playa Vista, Wikipedia). A daily walk outdoors is a solid piece of early recovery, and it is still a few minutes away.
Getting between Playa Vista and our homes
- Metro 110. Runs along Gage Avenue and Jefferson Boulevard between Bell Gardens and Playa Vista (Metro).
- Short drives and bike rides. Mar Vista and Venice are just north of Playa Vista, and many trips between them are quicker by bike than by car at rush hour.
Most men from Playa Vista drive or bike. Check Metro’s trip planner for the specific house you are considering.

For families and referring professionals
Families of men in high-pressure tech jobs often hear “I’m fine, just busy” for a long time. Sober living replaces that with facts. We send a weekly update to the family of every sober living resident. We also offer a free virtual family support group every other Tuesday, 6 to 7 PM Pacific. A licensed therapist from Blackburn Clinical Services runs it. Visit our families page.
Employee assistance professionals, therapists and treatment teams with a Playa Vista client can call us to plan a return to work. Provider updates come with sober living. See our treatment professionals page.
